Executive Director

Report to Board of Directors of STEM Santa Fe
Full Time, Exempt
STEM Santa Fe is looking for a passionate, high energy team player, eager to help close “the opportunity gap” for New Mexico children, mainly in grade 5-12. We are seeking a candidate eager to embrace our mission and work with a small team to take on daily operational challenges. As the Executive Director, you will lead high-quality programming based on effective best practices. The Executive Director will play a key role in nurturing a positive, highly collaborative work environment, comprising a large number of dedicated STEM professionals and volunteers as well as staff.

Position Overview

Hired by the Board of Directors, this position reports directly to the Board, and serves as an at will employee. The Executive Director ensures STEM Santa Fe’s mission is accomplished through a leader who is familiar with the fulfillment of multi-level non-profit and fiscal compliances, ethical communication practices and programs that serve diverse populations.
Responsible for the day-to-day operations and management of STEM Santa Fe; the Executive Director:

  • Develops and oversees fundraising activities;
  • Executes STEM Santa Fe’s programs, building partnerships and collaborations with other organizations and individuals to achieve STEM Santa Fe’s objectives;
  • Hires and supervises all employees, volunteers, and contractors and maintains effective communications with the Board of Directors and those we serve;
  • Works with other administrative staff on maintaining STEM Santa Fe’s equipment and other assets and resources.

The ideal candidate will have a Master's degree or Bachelor's degree plus experience in a STEM related field along with leadership experience.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Note: The Duties and Responsibilities listed below may be shared and delegated at the discretion of the Executive Director.

Maintaining effective communications with the Board of Directors
  • Prepares an annual budget and workplan, with input from the Board, for Board approval;
  • Develops and implements a strategic plan in conjunction with the Board;
  • Prepares agenda for Board meetings;
  • Meets monthly with the Board Chair for supervision.
Fundraising
  • Prepares fundraising goals consistent with the programs in the annual workplan and costs of running the organization;
  • Identifies grant opportunities, prepares, and submits grant applications and required reports;
  • Works with the Board to identify and pursue fundraising opportunities.
Managing STEM Santa Fe programs
  • Lead and facilitates the large Community of Practice providing thought leadership and delivering programs – STEM Professionals and Volunteers, students, etc;
  • Oversees development, implementation, and assessment of STEM Santa Fe programs;
  • Forms committees to assist in developing individual programs or events as necessary;
  • Produces post-event reports on programs, participation, and outcomes.
Building partnerships and collaborating with other organizations and individuals
  • Serves as spokesperson and community representative for STEM Santa Fe;
  • Develops and maintains contacts with educational, community, corporate, and institutional leaders, and decision makers;
  • Effectively markets STEM Santa Fe’s objectives, programs, and fund-raising needs through community outreach, speaking engagements, and social and traditional media;
  • Manages the STEM Santa Fe brand in print and social media;
  • Manages communication content on behalf of STEM Santa Fe.
Managing STEM Santa Fe’s operations
  • Updates and implements agencies financial and human resource policies;
  • Interviews, hires, supervises employees, volunteers, and contractors;
  • Ensures that employees payroll, timesheets and all benefits are recorded and in compliance.
  • Plans and assigns work among employees, contractors, and volunteers to meet objectives efficiently.
  • Monitors and documents performance of employees, contractors, and volunteers;
  • Monitors and documents in-kind donations and volunteer hours;
  • Manages contracts, agreements, and MOU’s;
  • Maintains the assets of STEM Santa Fe;
  • Monitors and implements legal compliance measures;
  • Maintains STEM Santa Fe’s 501(c)(3) status in good standing;
  • Performs other duties as required.

Salary and Benefits

  • $65-75K USD annual salary (Depending on qualifications and experience)
