The mission of STEM Santa Fe is to advocate for, develop, and provide Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) programming, mentoring and resources for all Northern New Mexico youth, especially youth under-represented in the STEM professions.

Programs and Volunteers Manager

STEM Santa Fe seeks a motivated individual to enhance and facilitate our STEM programs in Santa Fe. This is a flexible, part-time position that requires someone who is passionate about STEM education and is committed to serving Northern New Mexico’s youth.
STEM Santa Fe advocates for, develops, and provides Science, Technology, Engineering and Math programming, mentoring and resources to Northern New Mexican middle and high school students, especially those who are under-represented in STEM, to help them realize their potential and expand their opportunities in our dynamic world. STEM Santa Fe is a mentorship organization utilizing a network of STEM professionals who volunteer to serve as mentors and role models for students. We organize many educational STEM programs that are project-based and hands-on, providing extended learning experiences and mentorships to middle- and high-school age youth.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Actively plan and manage current programs. (room reservations, volunteer signups, students registrations, ordering supplies, email inquiries related to our programs).
  • Work collaboratively with the STEM Santa Fe team (which may include volunteers, educators, mentors, interns, workshop presenters and partners).
  • Support the Executive Director in logistical planning and execution of larger programs such as the STEM Pathway For Girls Conference and other similar events.
  • Embody STEM Santa Fe’s goals: inspiring and expanding horizons into STEM college and career paths, experiential learning, developing STEM skills competencies, and positive STEM identity.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director with recruiting, training and appreciating our incredible volunteers and leading mentors.
  • Lead committed and enthusiastic volunteers in programs in and out of schools, on field trips, and in workshops as a point of contact for the relevant event.
  • Collect evaluations, run report logs, and manage event attendance.
  • Communicate directly with parents and/or legal guardians to confirm program enrollment,program updates, permission forms and/or fee payments.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Passion for learning, sharing knowledge, and collaboration.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Flexibility in work schedule with occasional weekend hours.
  • Computer skills, specifically with Microsoft products – Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to complete projects and tasks with little or no supervision.
  • Ability to problem solve and present solutions with attention to detail.
  • Comfortable with working in a hybrid environment (partial at work/in office).

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or similar.
  • Local to, or able to regularly commute to, Santa Fe and occasionally Albuquerque and surrounding Pueblos.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.
  • Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods of time. The position includesdays of standing and walking all day and occasionally lifting up to 40 lbs.

Preferred skills:

  • Background in education or classroom management.
  • Proficient or fluent in Spanish is preferred but not required.
  • Experience working in a nonprofit environment.
  • Relationships with the Santa Fe educational community.

Salary

  • Pay rate of $25 per hour
  • Twenty (20) hours per week, with potential to increase.
